Although I have posted information on the community gardens near demise in south LA June 13th, 2006 and feel what the landowner and city (at an earlier point by condemning the land in the first place to build an incinerator and later selling it back to the same person) did was wrong. The landowner, ralph Horowitz, fed up with negative commotion made by the protesters and some anti-Semitic writing in pamphlets posted by one of the activist groups used that as an excuse not to make a deal to sell the gardens which he orignally intended to sell to Walmart for a warehouse. I think something went terribly wrong here on all sides. I wish someone with some objectivity would clarify some of this for the public. Although I identify with the farmers of the land, I also feel the landowner got a raw deal too. and it is not over yet.
